Coming Out and/or Exploring Through Character-Building & In-Game Actions

About this Training

Many LGBTQIA+ humans have a hard time initially coming to terms with their orientation, gender and/or identity. Furthermore, this is confounded by systemic shaping that implies these humans have done something wrong or should be fixed, resulting in internalized homo/bi/transphobia. For LGBTQIA+ persons struggling with coming to terms and/or coming out to unsupportive family & friends, there is a very real risk of self-harm and suicide -- supporting them is vital to their survival. RPGs are a safe and unique way of being able to don any identity and roll with it, experiencing through their character's eyes while actively making the choices and speaking for their character. This allows for an affirming, empowering, and self-awareness/acceptance-focused experience that can literally save lives. The objective of this presentation is to address how practitioners can build affirming worlds, characters, and experiences for LGBTQIA+ clients.
