D&D Therapy Groups: The Challenging Player Types

About this Training

This training aims to break down strategies and interventions based on challenging member types in the adult D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) therapy group setting. Participants will learn about the common challenging member types based on Irvine Yalom’s assessment as well as common gamer-specific player types in collaborative game settings such as casual D&D games. This training will cover suggestions on interventions based on the group member, as well as considerations of group dynamics contributing to the problematic behavior. Additionally, participants will be prompted to consider countertransference themes in light of previous problematic player encounters. This training is designed to blend consideration of problematic players and challenging group members to mirror the specific demands of being both the therapist and GM (game master).
